Family Literacy Night: Rolling out the Red Carpet
Mays Elementary rolled out the red carpet for a fantastic Family Literacy Night on November 19, 2024, and the turnout was nothing short of amazing! With an estimated 100 families in attendance and over 200 bags of popcorn handed out, the evening was filled with lots of smile and a shared love for reading.
The event featured interactive literacy stations designed to support early literacy skills, including letter, sound, and sight word recognition. As an early childhood campus, these foundational skills were intentionally emphasized to empower families with fun, "game-like" activities they can easily replicate at home.
Families entered through the bus parking lot doors to receive movie tickets, which they could punch at literacy stations and redeem for popcorn and a movie in the cafeteria. The Scholastic Book Fair, along with various vendors and food trucks, added to the festive atmosphere, with several vendors generously donating a percentage of their sales to the campus library.
A huge thank you goes out to all the staff, vendors, and community members who contributed to making Family Literacy Night a resounding success.
